ROI in less than one month

The client's need:

Our client supplied automobile bumper kits of several sizes and colors. Each kit had to be packaged with the correct bumper, side plates, hardware and installation manuals. Because numerous incorrect orders had been shipped to dealers, the supplier was placed on "hold" status and required to have an independent inspector check every order before it was shipped--a very expensive process. The client wanted an uncomplicated solution that would swiftly remove him from "hold" status and allow him to bid on new contracts.

How CSI solved the client's problem:

In order to remove our client quickly from "hold" status, CSI decided the solution lay in automating the existing manual process to ensure a near-zero defect rate. Together, we redesigned the entire process to make it simple to use and integrated bar code hand scanners into the process. Each component was validated and tracked as it was placed into their correct shipping containers.

To work with the hand scanners, a new computer running a custom Visual Basic program was installed to confirm hardware, side plates and instruction manuals were in the correct containers. We added a printer, which permitted our client to print reports listing all materials shipped and the name of each dealer.

After employing CSI's solution, our client realized instant results with an ROI of less than one month.
